Oracle Tip: Reset SYS password on Oracle 11g / 10g

If you ever forget the SYS password for your Oracle 11g/10g database below is an easy way to reset it:

  1. Open a command prompt. (START->RUN->cmd)
  2. At the prompt type ‘sqlplus /nolog’
  3. connect / as sysdba
  4. Once your connected to the DB, you can change the SYS password by typing the following sql statement:
    ALTER USER sys IDENTIFIED BY new_password;

Hope this helps.
