Windows Tip: BUGCODE_NDIS_DRIVER error during Windows 8.1 upgrade

As I was trying to upgrade my HTPC from Windows 8.0 to 8.1 this morning I ran into the Bug Check BUGCODE_NDIS_DRIVER error and my upgrade was automatically rolled back. I was able to narrow it down to my wireless adaptor drivers that seemed to be NOT compatible with windows 8.1 (in spite of passing the compatibility check during the install process). So I did the following to get past this error and do a successful upgrade:

1. Disconnect the wireless adaptor from your computer

2. Uninstall the wireless adaptor drivers

3. Restart your computer

4. Restart your windows 8.1 upgrade process (from the windows store)

5. Install your wireless adaptor (with updated Windows 8.1 drivers from the manufacturers site) after a successful windows 8.1 upgrade process

My computer already finished the update. It comes up with the error after a minute or so of booting up. no matter what i do it comes up with this error. If anyone has an idea of what i could try it would be greatly appreciated.
